As promised earlier this year, major construction work on the Mercier Bridge will begin June 19 and last throughout much of the summer.

The concrete deck on the federal portion of the bridge is being replaced, and the underside of the bridge is being reinforced to bring it up to new building codes.

Some overnight closures will be needed before the eight-week blitz begins.

One lane will be open in each direction while the work is being carried out.

Construction begins on Friday June 19 at 9 p.m. and crews will be working around the clock to complete the repairs by Monday August 17.

During construction the speed limit will be 50 km/hr, and the lanes will only be 3 m wide going toward the South Shore, and 3.3 m wide heading to Montreal. Trucks will not be allowed on the bridge during rush hour (5 a.m. to 9 a.m., 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.).
