A 32-year-old man who is believed to have links to organized crime was shot and badly wounded Monday evening in Mascouche.

The attack took place shortly before 8 p.m. as the victim arrived at his home on Place de la Brise, a cul-de-sac near the intersection of des Anglais Rd. and Ste. Marie Rd.

The victim's partner witnessed the shooting and is believed to have called 9-1-1.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Montreal for treatment and at last report was in critical condition.

There are reports the victim is Daniel Romain, who has prior convictions for drug and weapons-related crimes.

The Sureté du Quebec is investigating the attack.
