A 24-year-old man is recovering after being shot in an apartment in Pointe-St-Charles early Saturday morning.
The man – who is known to police – heard a knock at the door to his apartment at 2340 Knox St. just after midnight.
"The victim actually went to answer the door and as he approached the front door of his house. The shot came through (the door) and hit him," said Montreal police Const. Yannick Ouimet.
He was shot in the upper body by at least one bullet, said Montreal police Const. Daniel Lacoursiere.
The victim called police, telling them he had been shot.
The suspect or suspects fled. There was another person in the apartment at the time.
The victim was transported to hospital. His life is not in danger and he is expected to recover.
Police are hoping to speak with the victim as soon as he is well enough, but so far, no witnesses have come forward.
"No precise description whatsoever of a possible suspect and we're not even sure if we're talking about one or many at this time," said Ouimet.
Ouimet said officers are trying to determine what led to the violent altercation.
"It's an area known for narcotics; is it due to narcotics? Does he have past with narcotics? These are all answers the investigators will be looking at, because the victim may have the answers that investigators are actually looking for," he said.
