A man who barricaded himself inside his home for 10 hours in Old Longueuil died late Saturday.

Longueuil police were in contact with the man, who was in his 40s, by telephone.

They believed he had firearms in the house and may be suicidal.

Just before midnight, police entered the house and found the man dead. The cause of death hasn’t been determined.

Police had said the man has made no threats against others. He was alone in the house at the time, which is on Arsene St.

10 people were evacuated in the area during the operation.

As per Quebec law, because the man died during a police operation, the Public Security Ministry ordered that investigation be transferred to the Surete du Quebec.
