MONTREAL—A 26-year-old Montreal transit worker thought he was doing his part to clean up his neighbourhood, now he is facing assault charges after he was arrested by the Montreal police.

On Wednesday, Marvin Lapointe was in Guybourg Park in the East End neighbourhood of Mercier when he says he was fed-up seeing a man he claims is homeless going to the bathroom in bushes near where children play.

What followed next was captured on video and uploaded to social media by Lapointe himself.

In an ugly confrontation, Lapointe told the man to pick up what he has just done, handing him a bag. He is then seen aggressively yelling, chasing and pushing the man for nearly two minutes. At one point, the victim was pushed to the ground and was clearly in distress.

A police source told CTV Montreal that the victim has been known by neighbours to have defecated in the park on several previous occasions.

After Lapointe uploaded the video on Facebook, police got word of the footage and managed to track down both the suspect and the victim. Lapointe has been charged with armed assault and uttering threats.

He was released upon a promise to appear in court to face his charges.

Police say it's a reminder that if you see someone repeatedly acting strangely in a park, call them and don't take matters into you own hands.
