A man accused of driving under the influence and running down two pedestrians has once gain been denied bail.

Ngnan Yee Wong and her husband, Poom Huy Shuy, were walking along Ceres St. in Dollard des Ormeaux in February when they were struck by a car.

Wong, 73, was killed by the collision, while Shuy, 72, was severely injured.

40-year-old Yvan Grandmaison is accused of being at the wheel of the car that hit the pair, and of using cocaine, methamphetamine and alcohol before the crash.

Initially denied bail because of a previous conviction of impaired driving, Grandmaison was asking for bail so he could pursue a course of substance rehabilitiation and take care of his aging mother.

Grandmaison's brother was also willing to put forward a $3,000 bail bond to secure his release.

However the judge ruled those new conditions would not be enough to grant him bail.

Crown prosecutor Dennis Galiatsatos was pleased with the decision.

"These are offences that we consider to be among the most serious offences in the criminal code. Drunk driving, impaired driving, impaired by drugs and alcohol is a crime.

It's not a mistake a judgment," said Galiatsatos.

Grandmaison is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 4, 2012.
