A 56-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning in St. Eustache in the Lower Laurentians.

The man called 911 at about 1:50 a.m. from his home seeking medical attention. When paramedics and police officers arrived at the home on Landry St., Jean-Luc Legault was in cardiac arrest.

Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, and he was confirmed dead in hospital.

Legault had visible knife wounds on his body and an investigating at the hospital confirmed he was indeed stabbed.

“On his body there were cuts and marks that we believed to be from an edged weapon, and this morning we were able to confirm that it was an edged weapon that was used to cause the man’s death,” said Surete du Quebec spokesperson Daniel Thibaudeau.

Police are so far unclear if there was a forced entry, if he was stabbed in or outside of the house or if he was with anyone else in the evening.

“We’ll look into his background and his past to see what could have transpired that would explain this,” said Thibaudeau. “A lot of neighbours are telling us different stories about the man and as well, the scene which is about to start by our technicians will tell us another story. Hopefully we’ll be able to piece things together and be able to piece things together with why this happened and who is responsible for it.”

No one has been arrested so far.

The Surete du Quebec is handling the investigation.
