Montreal police are investigating the island's 19th murder of 2014 after a 19-year-old man was found on the ground at the corner of Langelier and Lacoursiere in St. Leonard Sunday at about 1:30 a.m.

The young man had been hit with at least one projectile to the upper body and did not survive his wounds.

The man was killed after a dispute inside a nearby wedding reception ceremony.

The bride reportedly screamed in shock when she heard of the news.

One woman said that her husband heard the shots but did not recognize it as gunfire.

"He passed by and heard three gunshots. He figured it was fireworks," the woman told CTV Montreal.

Police cordoned off the area to collect evidence and are interviewing potential witnesses.

There were three more murders in Montreal at this time last year.
