MONTREAL - Major roadwork will take place over the next two weekends on the Jacques Cartier Bridge leading to full and partial closures of the span.
The bridge was completely closed Saturday morning from 1 to 4 a.m. and will also be closed Monday morning at that time.
Between the full closures, there will also be partial closures on the bridge. Only one lane will be open in each direction from 4 a.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday. The same schedule is in place next weekend.
The construction work is to replace four bearing devices on the bridge, part of a project which began in 2006 to replace a total of 39 devices. Twenty-nine devices have been replaced so far.
The closures will allow workers to slightly lift a section of the deck to replace the bearing devices.
Drivers are being urged to urged to use the Champlain, Victoria and Honoré Mercier Bridges or the Louis-Hyppolite-Lafontaine Tunnel during this period.
The Jacques Cartier bicycle path remains open.
