A scheduled Montreal screening of a documentary film about accused killer Luka Magnotta has been cancelled due a publication ban.

The documentary Sex, Fame and Murder: The Luka Magnotta Story was to be presented on August 23 and 24 at the Montreal World Film Festival.

The 43-minute Canal D Investigation was also slated to air on that channel on Friday August 29.

Magnotta’s trial kicks off September 8 at the Montreal courthouse in Montreal.

He is accused of the premeditated murder of Chinese student Jun Lin along with other related crimes.

Jun Lin's body was found in May 2012 on Decarie Blvd., while Magnotta was on the run. Magnotta was eventually arrested in Berlin in June.

The preliminary hearing was held in spring 2013 and the documentary contains testimonies from people who participated in the interviews.

The documentary could conceivably have led to a mistrial.
