Residents of lower Westmount may now use their tap water again following a boil-water advisory the began Thursday.

The City of Westmount has confirmed that the water is safe for consumption following the results of analyses of water samples taken from the affected region.

Residents may use the water immediately, but the city is recommending everyone runs their water from all faucets, including outdoor taps, for five minutes first.

On Thursday residents were advised to boil water for at least 60 seconds before using it for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes or any other activity that could lead to ingestion.

The City of Westmount did not specify the cause of the issue or what exactly had been found in the water.

The advisory was only in effect for the water on the south side of Dorchester and below, specifically the following streets: Weredale Park, Clandeboye, Stayner, Prospect, Greene (south of Dorchester), Columbia, Bruce and Hallowell.
