The Labour Day long weekend will not mean any slacking off when it comes to highway construction in and around Montreal.

Multi-day closures are planned for the Mercier Bridge, and other frequently-used intersections.

Mercier Bridge

Travelling to the South Shore and back via the Mercier Bridge will be a slow process as vehicles will be constrained to one lane in each direction.

Access ramps from Airlie St. toward the South Shore, and from La Prairie to Montreal, will also be off-limits.

Work begins at 10 p.m. Friday and will continue until noon on Monday Sept. 1, 2014.

Contractors will be replacing structural elements on the Quebec-governed portion of the bridge, and reinforcing the steel structure on the federal, Seaway-side.

Saint Pierre Interchange

Drivers coming off the Mercier Bridge will find it difficult to get onto Highway 20 east.

The connection from Route 138 to Highway 20 east will be closed at 11 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday this weekend and for the next six weekends.

Transport Quebec is recommending a detour via Highway 20 West until 1st Avenue, then looping around to head east.

Even when the weekend closure is finished, the ramp will remain limited to just one lane free until the end of October.

Decarie Circle UPDATE: CANCELLED

Drivers going from the 15 North to Highway 40 West will not have to detour via Marcel Laurin Blvd.

Transport Quebec is expanding the onramp to accommodate two lanes of traffic, but work planned for the Labour Day weekend was cancelled on Friday morning due to weather concerns.

The same cancellation applies to the plan to close access to the 40 West from Decarie South. No new date was issued for the repair work.
