Sex education is not on the curriculum in most Quebec high schools, the result of the educational reform that began in 2001.

The goal was for a holistic approach to sexual education, with teachers in every subject taking the opportunity to teach children about sexuality.

The result, according to many critics and previous reports by CTV News, is that students get a very patchy education about sexual education, with many students saying they are unaware that all sexual activity carries a risk of infection.

On Wednesday Lester B. Pearson high school hosted a sex education seminar to go over the basics for teenagers who are legally responsible for their own decisions.

"As of 14 the kids are legally responsible for their health. There are a few exceptions but when it comes to sexuality, if they are pregnant or if they are positive for a sexually transmitted infection we cannot tell the parents as a professional," said nurse Maria Di Matteo.
