An athlete training for an Iron Man competition in Mont-Tremblant has died after colliding with a vehicle while cycling on Saturday.

The 23-year-old native of Morin-Heights struck the back of a sports utility vehicle that had slowed down to allow other cars to pass.

The cyclist was taken to hospital in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts in critical condition and was transferred to another hospital in St-Jerome. There, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night.

According to local police, no charges will be laid against the motorist, who was visiting from Massachusetts.
