A rate increase could be coming for Hydro-Quebec clients.

The Crown corporation is asking the province’s energy board for an across-the-board increase of 1.6 per cent, beginning in 2017.

For a small apartment, that would mean an extra $0.43 per month while for a large house it would come out to $5.11.

Hydro-Quebec said the increase is due to lower than anticipated demand and higher costs for some new equipment.

The energy board will make its decision early in the new year.
