Police have made three more arrests after four people burst into a Montreal home Tuesday, attacked the people inside and demanded a baby.

Two women were also arrested and appeared in court Tuesday after the violent home invasion. One of those women is the child's mother.

“They managed to get in the apartment but weren’t able to get into my room to take my child,” the baby’s father, who preferred not to be identified, said.

The attack happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Montigny St. near 53rd Ave. in Pointe aux Trembles where two men, aged 26 and 56 years old, along with an 11-month-old child, were inside the home at the time.

The home invaders assaulted the older man, Rejean Roy, beating him with a steel bar and cutting him with a knife.

Roy said the attackers were demanding the baby, his grandson.

"They hit me with the crowbar, and then I tried to calm them down. I said 'Are you crazy, what are you doing, are you mentally ill? It's a child! There are better ways to take care of a child.'"

"And then he said 'no, the child is going with us," said Roy.

During the fighting the boy's father locked himself in a room with the infant, and the attackers left without the baby.

Roy said he instructed his son to put the bassinette in front of the door to keep the attackers from reaching the child,

Roy was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries, and has one arm in a sling.

The infant boy’s grandmother said the attackers even threatened to kill Roy.

Police say a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man have been questioned by police and are still in custody. They are expected to appear in court Wednesday where they may be charged with conspiracy and armed assault. A young woman is currently being questioned for her possible involvement in this attempted abduction.

They are still looking for one suspect, a 21-year-old man.

The two women, aged 19 and 20, were arrested nearby shortly after the invasion.

Cassandra Blais, 19, and Marie-Josee Boucher, 20, appeared in court to face charges of attempted kidnapping, conspiracy and armed assault.

Boucher is the baby’s mother. The family of the baby’s father believes she is behind the assault.

“She arrived 20 minutes later and said, ‘Oh my God, what happened?” said the baby’s paternal grandmother, Guylaine Laford.

Boucher cried during her brief appearance in court. She and Blais were released pending several conditions, including not having any contact with the father and grandfather or seeing her child until a meeting with youth protection.

“She was really sad of that situation and in shock,” said defence attorney Yann Trignac.

Police may examine surveillance video from nearby to see exactly what occurred.
