MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens traded goaltender Dustin Tokarski to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday in exchange for right-winger Max Friberg.

Friberg, who has played in six career NHL games with the Ducks, has 17 points (5-12) in 25 games with AHL San Diego this season.

The Habs need options at the right wing position; Alex Semin and Zack Kassian were off-season acquistions that didn't pan out for the team. Friberg will report to the AHL St. John's IceCaps.

Tokarski has a 1-3-0 record with the Canadiens this season with a 3.19 goals-against average and .878 save percentage. He had a 3-3-4 mark with the IceCaps.

Tokarski made his NHL debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2009-'10 and was traded to the Canadiens in 2013. He was thrust into the spotlight during the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, when he was chosen to play over Peter Budaj when starter Carey Price went down with an injury.

Tokarski lost the backup spot this season to Mike Condon.
