Michel Duchaussoy has been found guilty of the first-degree murder of Ziad Bouzid.

The jury delivered its verdict on Friday morning after several days of deliberations.

Duchaussoy shot and killed Bouzid on November 19, 2013 after the taxi driver drove him and his wife from Dorval to Cote des Neiges.

The Crown convinced the jury that Duchaussoy was determined to kill someone because he was angry and frustrated with poverty after losing his job and his home.

Duchaussoy called for the cab even though he had no money. The Crown also pointed to Duchaussoy carrying around a sawed-off shotgun in a backpack as a deliberate sign of intent.

When the taxi arrived at its destination, Duchaussoy shot Bouzid once in the back of the head, and several seconds later shot him a second time when he realized Bouzid was still alive.

Bouzid survived a short time and died in hospital.

Duchaussoy will automatically face a life sentence without any possibility of parole for 25 years.
