Funeral services took place Sunday for the 27-year-old Quebec City woman who was killed by a car.

Marie-Pier Gagné had just left a doctor's appointment and was standing on the median of Laurier Blvd. when she was struck and killed on Aug. 10.

Doctors were able to deliver her baby, although the infant was injured in the collision and was taken to Montreal for treatment of skull fractures and a concussion.

Widower Sylvain Bittner-Lamy and the extended family have thanked the public for their generosity, and for their respect in allowing them to mourn in private.

Gagné's cousin, Laureanne Marceau, read a statement outside the funeral centre.

"To all those of you who have been been touched by what happened, we thank you for your caring," said Marceau.

Donors have given more than $45,000 to the Bittner-Lamy, who will have to raise the child alone following his wife's death.

Sunday's funeral took place in Saint Marie de Beauce, a small town about 40 km south of Quebec City.
