Ten people are homeless and two people were injured following a five-alarm fire in Lachine.

The fire started on 12th Avenue and Notre Dame just after 5 p.m. Friday and quickly spread to five other buildings.

It took 120 firefighters two hours to get the blaze under control.

The fire department said a barbecue on a second-floor balcony started the fire, which spread to four businesses, including a depanneur and a restaurant, as well as five apartments.

Two women in their twenties were taken to hospital to be treated for burns to their hands.

Damage is estimated at close to $500,000.
