Fifteen people are temporarily homeless after a three-alarm fire in Villeray--St. Michel--Parc Extension borough.

The blaze broke out in the kitchen of a first-floor apartment on Jean Talon St. E at 10th Ave. in the around 7:20 p.m.

It quickly spread to the roof of the four-storey building.

Three residents and one firefighter had to be transported to hospital, where a mother and her child were treated for smoke inhalation, and a man burned his feet while trying to escape.

The firefighter was treated for heatstroke.

A Montreal Fire Service spokesman said there is an estimated $125,000-worth of damage to the building.
