A residential fire left one man dead Wednesday afternoon in the Duvernay district of Laval.

The fire broke out in a 20-unit building on Rivard St., but was contained to one unit.

The man was found unconscious inside the apartment, and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Laval police spokesperson Nathalie Lorrain said there was no evidence so far to suspect the fire is suspicious.

The building was evacuated during the blaze, but evacuees were quickly able to return to their homes.
