A fire forced 11 people from an apartment building in St. Hyacinthe on Laframboise Ave. early Sunday morning.

Firefighters say many of the residents were still sleeping when they arrived. There was no working smoke detector in the building.

The fire started in-between the second and third floors.

It took about 50 firefighters more than an hour to get it under control.

No one was injured but at least five apartments were heavily damaged.
