A fire in a Pointe-Claire apartment building forced more than 200 people from their homes on Saturday morning.

The residents of the nine-story building on Seignory Ave. were awoken by a fire alarm at 7:30 a.m.

The fire department said the flames were contained to the wooden roof deck.

One resident admitted he failed to properly put out a cigarette on the roof on Friday night.

Residents were permitted back inside about an hour later.
