Fire destroyed a chairlift at Mt. Bromont on Wednesday night.
Somebody called 9-1-1 around 7 p.m. to report the chairlift was on fire.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and were unable to stop the flames from destroying the structure.
Chairlift #5 on the lakeside slope (Versant du Lac) runs from a parking lot at the bottom of Mt. Spruce to the peak of Mont Brome, the central peak at the resort.
People at the resort will examine the structure on Thursday in an attempt to figure out exactly what happened. The preliminary indication is that an electrical fault caused the fire.
The lift is so badly damaged that it will be out of service for the rest of the ski season.
