Firefighters were called to the scene at 171 St. Paul West in Old Montreal after an early-morning fire.
The fire broke out at 4:30 a.m. from the fireplace and spread throughout the building, but was quickly under control. It was over in an hour.
The Epik Hotel was evacuated and two tourists are in the care of the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire spreading into the structure is currently unknown. The hotel’s basement, skylight and first floor were damaged, but no one else was hurt.
