A fire broke out Tuesday morning in the attic of a McGill University residence at 651 Sherbrooke Street West.
About 20 vehicles and 50 firefighters rushed to Royal Victoria College and were very quick to control the fire and extinguish the flames.
The call came in at 10:46 a.m. and was under control within the hour.
Firefighters say the fire began in the attic but did not spread. The cause of the fire is not known.
The four-storey building usually houses about 270 students, the majority of whom were at class when the fire began.
The building was evacuated when the fire broke out and students brought to other residences for temporary shelter.
After putting out the flames firefighters began the check the building for hot spots, and expected that students would be able to return home during the afternoon.
Nobody was hurt.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Sherbrooke St. was closed between McGill College Ave. and Union St. when firefighters arrived, and was expected to re-open early Tuesday afternoon.
