No one was injured but many families are at least temporarily homeless after a fire tore through an apartment complex in Cote des Neiges Saturday evening.

The call came in at just after 7 p.m. for a four-storey building on Queen Mary Rd. and Cedar Crescent.

Fire officials say the blaze began in the kitchen of a first-floor unit and quickly spread to the upper floors.

More than 100 firefighters were called to battle the fire.

Of the 48 apartments that were evacuated, at least eight of them were so badly damaged their occupants will be unable to return in the near future.

The Red Cross was on the scene helping those in need.
