Have you had a call from Revenue Canada lately? It could be fraud.

Longueuil police are warning the public that someone has been making phone calls to residents while pretending to be a Revenue Canada officer.

When they talk to a victim, the fraudster says the individual owes money to the federal government and must pay it as soon as possible.

Revenue Canada said it is common for scam artists to pretend to be from the agency, and sometimes fraudsters pretend that the victim is due for a large refund.

The ultimate goal of the fraud artist is to get personal information including bank account numbers and social insurance numbers.

Anyone who thinks they are being targeted, or has been the victim of fraud, can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
