About 1,500 Hydro Quebec clients are still without power one day after after high winds caused outages across the province on Christmas Day.

The majority of those still without electricity Friday are outside of Montreal in the Saguenay–Lac St. Jean, Bas–St. Laurent and the Chaudiere Appalaches regions of Quebec, where about 804 customers are in the dark.

In Montreal, most of the affected customers in the dark were in Dollard des Ormeaux, Pierrefonds–Roxboro and St. Laurent.

At the height of the outage, 34,000 clients were without power. Around 9 a.m. Thursday, 24,000 customers in Montreal were without power, according to a Hydro spokesperson. That number was reduced to 2,000 by 11 a.m.

Environment Canada had issued a wind warning for Montreal, Laval and parts of the South Shore Thursday.

The gusts in cities nearest to the St. Lawrence River were expected to reach speeds of 90 km/h.
