Laval’s Jimmy Cournoyer, 34, known as the pot playboy, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison in New York.

Prosecutors had been asking for a 30-year sentence for his role in a drug and money laundering enterprise involving an estimated $1 billion of marijuana and cocaine.

During the high profile trial Judge Raymond Dearie was told by prosecutors that lawyers had attempted to tamper with witnesses through implied threats.

Prosecutors alleged that Cournoyer had a $2-million “hit fund” for those who betrayed him.

Cournoyer was also alleged to have ties with the Rizzuto crime family in recent years.

In late June former former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre raised some eyebrows by writing a note in support of Cournoyer, who he described as being “like a brother to me.”

Cournoyer also plead guilty in 2008 to trafficking 100,000 kilograms of marijuana and 83 kilograms of cocaine among other offenses.
