It's been a frustrating weekend for drivers in NDG and Montreal West, and it’s not over yet.

Repair work was taking place over the weekend on the tracks at the railroad crossing near the corner of Sherbrooke St. and Westminster Ave., but as drivers discovered, the detour away from the tracks just leads to several other detours in the area.

Construction on streets around the Montreal West train station have some people feeling trapped by orange cones and detour signs.

“In a nutshell, everyone from western NDG, Montreal West and Cote St. Luc who wish the privilege to leave their areas must endure a 20-to-30-minute detour that is completely messed up,” said Rob Johnston, who contacted CTV about the tie-ups.

Johnston added that he had “never seen such incompetence.”

The borough of Cote-des-Neiges-NDG has doubled its investments in roadwork and underground infrastructure, spending $7.5 million this year compared to $8 million over the last two years.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the borough said:

"We understand that major works cause difficulties for neighboring citizens... but the under-funding over the last decades has made this catching up more than necessary."

The work at the railroad crossing is wrapping up Saturday night, but the construction on Sherbrooke at Elmhurst Ave. continues.
