Police say the 19-year-old driver involved in Saturday’s fatal crash in Montreal East is facing 13 charges.

Jean-Richard Auguste, from Montreal North, was arraigned Monday afternoon from his hospital bed on 12 counts of criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving. Auguste was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Two young men, aged 18 and 19, died in the early morning crash. They were passengers in the vehicle.

John-Aly Morno-Legrand was declared dead on arrival in hospital. His friend Jean-Remi Moreau also didn't survive his injuries

The driver and two other passengers, a woman and a man aged between 18 and 25, were brought to hospital in critical condition. They are expected to survive their injuries.

The car left the road, and hit a tree and then crashed into a balcony near Notre Dame and Dube Sts.

Skid marks at the scene indicate that the driver attempted to brake while travelling at a high speed. Police allege Auguste was driving fast and somehow lost control of his car.

The car crashed into Johanne Morin’s home.

“I just heard a loud boom,” she said, adding that she thought it was a large branch that fell on her patio.

Morin said she remembers an eerie silence when she walked out of her home.

"I didn't hear anyone screaming or crying,” she said.

Blood alcohol results are not in and so police do not know whether the driver will be charged with impaired driving causing death.

Results of the test will only be available in a few weeks.
