MONTREAL - Kyle Gabriel, 28, the third suspect in a famous double murder in Old Montreal two years ago, appeared in court via videoconference call Saturday after being arrested near Toronto.

Gabriel, who was long-sought on a Canada-wide warrant following the slayings at a clothing boutique on March 18, 2010, faces two charges of premeditated murder.

His co-accused, Carey Isaac Regis and Terrell Lloyd Smith were arrested in July 2011 and their trial began Monday.

The shooting at the Flawnego boutique on St. Jacques claimed two lives and left two others injured.

The clothing boutique’s owner Ducarme Joseph escaped unharmed but was arrested the next day on gun charges, for which he served less than one year in prison.

Joseph has been suspected by Montreal police of being a powerful street gang leader.
