A couple from Newmarket, Ont. who got engaged in Montreal on New Year’s Day was able to put their troubles aside for a dream wedding thanks to their community.

Heidi Moore is coping with stage four lung cancer. Her partner Rodney Comer proposed on New Year's Day in Montreal. When their story went viral, the community got behind them.

On Friday night, the couple was able create a memory that will last forever.

"Today means the beginning of the rest of our lives, a new journey as husband and wife I couldn't more excited or happy," Moore said.

The couple has been together for two and a half years, but met in high school.

Heidi was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, underwent chemotherapy and surgery and was deemed cancer-free. But in 2014, a routine MRI showed a 10-centimetre long tumour growing on her liver. The cancer has now spread to her lungs.

"Having Rodney walk Heidi through this journey has been such a blessing for our family,” said Heidi’s sister Holly Moore. “It's given her a soft place to fall, and it's given her strength when she wasn't sure she had any."

From the bride's dress, to the venue, decorations and food, everything was donated by more than 25 vendors to give the couple a free wedding.

"It’s been totally humbling. We didn't expect it to be this much, but so many people got involved, it's overwhelming,” says Comer.
