Psychologists and counselors were at College Saint Hilaire on Monday to offer their services to students and staffs troubled by a deadly crash.

18-year-old Danyka Grabosky died Friday when a speeding car hit a school bus carrying 40 high school students on Highway 116 at Authier St.

Grabosky was a passenger in the car, while the 19-year-old driver, Marc Antoine Landry, remained in critical condition on Monday.

At this point police suspect the 19-year-old was racing another vehicle.

A total of 47 people were treated for injuries at the scene, with 39 more taken to hospital for treatment.

One student suffered a broken collarbone, while another has a concussion.

The school's principal and the town's mayor met with students on Monday morning, and said that many students were still troubled by the crash.

“Nerves are still frayed,” with reason,” said Corriveau. “But we want to reassure them.”

Several missed school Monday because they had appointments for medical care.

Mayor Yves Corriveau said he met with Transport Quebec officials over the weekend as part of his campaign to lower the speed limit near the school.

The speed limit on the road near the school is 90 km/h, and Corriveau said he would like to see it lowered to 70 km/h.

Corriveau will continue to meet with Transport Quebec over the summer in hopes the speed limit can be changed before the new school year.

Local resident and retired nurse Claire Gosselin, who witnessed the crash and tried to help the teenagers trapped inside the mangled car, said cars speed there all the time.

“We need traffic lights,” she said. “I’ve seen too many accidents here.”
