Part of the Mercier Bridge will be closed all weekend, while those using the Bonaventure Expressway can expect detours if travelling at night.

One lane in each direction of the Mercier shuts down at 10 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to re-open at 5 a.m. Monday June 1.

Construction crews will be preparing the bridge to be resurfaced later this year.

Meanwhile work will be taking place Saturday and Sunday night at the downtown Montreal end of the Bonaventure Expressway.

From 10:30 pm. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, and again from 8:30 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday, crews will be working on the highway between Exit 2 and downtown Montreal. Crews will be doing annual maintenance on the raised section of the expressway, and one lane in each direction will remain closed after this weekend.

Other work planned for the other end of the Bonaventure this weekend on Clement Bridge toward Nuns' Island, has been postponed because of the storms in the forecast.

"That work is on the membrane, and we cannot do it when it is wet," said Anne-Marie Braconnier, a spokesperson for the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Corporation.
