MONTREAL –You’d better bundle up if you’re leaving the house Sunday night.
The mild weather will give way to freezing temperatures overnight from Sunday into Monday all over Quebec, with off-and-on snowfall throughout the day Sunday.
The mercury will plummet in Montreal and Quebec City; the low temperature should hover around minus 20 degrees Celsius and minus 30 with the wind chill overnight.
Further north in the province, such as Abitibi, the low should hit minus 30 degrees Celsius. With the wind chill, it could drop to around minus 41 degrees.
The cold temperatures will last a few days, said Rene Heroux of Environment Canada.
"For most of the week, temperature at night would be minus 25. I wouldn't be surprised to see temperature reaching minus 30, Tuesday morning or Wednesday morning," he said.
Daytime temperatures in Montreal are expected to reach only minus 18 or minus 20 later this week.
High winds are also a concern, whipping up to 90 kilometres per hour. Roads around the Bell Centre were shut down Saturday as winds knocked a crane into a building on the southwest corner of Rene-Levesque at Peel St., smashing four windows.
According to Hydro Quebec, high winds caused a slew of power outages, some 6000 in the Island of Montreal - mostly in Pierrefonds - and 5000 in Laval and the South Shore.
In the west, south and centre of the province, up to five extra centimetres of snow are expected to hit Sunday.
Further north, in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and the Haute-Côte-Nord areas in particular, up to 20 centimetres expected to fall Sunday.
