A new poll shows Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean MNA Alexandre Cloutier leading in the Parti Quebecois leadership race.

According to the survey, which was conducted by Leger, Le Devoir and Journal de Montreal, the former Minister for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs, Canadian Francophonie and Sovereignist Governance has the support of 37 per cent of PQ supporters.

Former minister responsible for Montreal Jean-Francois Lisee garnered support from 15 per cent of supporters, followed by 14 per cent in favour of former Minister of Social Services and Youth Protection Veronique Hivon.

Martine Ouellet and Paul St-Pierre Plamondon received seven per cent and two per cent support, respectively.

A quarter of PQ supporters were undecided.

The poll was conducted via the Internet between June 6 and 8, using a sample of 990 Quebecers.

The leadership race was necessitated by the sudden resignation of PQ leader Pierre-Karl Peladeau in early May. The vote will be held on Oct. 7.
