Montrealers looking to use two of the city’s major tunnels are in for a disappointment this weekend.
The Viger tunnel will be closed in both directions starting at midnight on Saturday and will re-open at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Transport Quebec is closing two out of three lanes of the Lafontaine tunnel from 11 p.m until 8 a.m. on Friday night until Saturday morning, and again from Saturday night until Sunday morning.
Crews will be testing the fire resistance of the concrete as they make plans to subject the tunnel to a major overhaul.
Drivers should take one of the bridges to the South Shore for a quicker trip.
Last year significant damage was caused to the Montreal-bound lanes when a truck caught fire.
