MONTREAL--According to sources, Vito Rizzuto landed at Toronto's Pearson airport just before 11 p.m. on Friday night. Rizzuto was released from Colorado's FCI Florence prison early Friday morning.

Armed officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs escorted the mobster aboard a flight from Colorado to Toronto.The mob boss, once one of Canada's most powerful underworld leaders, has served nearly five years in prison after pleaded guilty in 2007 to racketeering charges in connection with the murders of three captains of the Bonnano crime family in New York in 1981

He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Rizzuto, 66, was expected to return to Canada but not directly to his home of Montreal.

Since Rizzuto began serving his sentence his son and his father have been assassinated, while in May 2010 his brother-in-law Paolo Renda disappeared without a trace.

On the day of his release services are taking place at his family's funeral home for his father-in-law.

Leonardo Cammalleri, 92, died this week of a heart attack. He was wanted by Italian authorities for alleged crimes dating back decades, but Italy never asked for his extradition.
