Four brazen thieves broke into a home east of Montreal Monday night, attacked the residents and made off with jewelry and $10,000 in cash.

The robbery took place in the village of Saint-Amable, about 40 km due east of Montreal, north of Sainte Julie.

Four men forced their way into a home and struck a man in the head. They accosted a woman in the home, then scoured the home for valuables.

Police say they made off with $10,000 in cash and an unknown amount of jewelry before fleeing.

The male victim was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries.

Police only have vague descriptions of the four suspects.
