Eugenie Bouchard will get a chance at revenge over the opponent who knocked her out of the U.S. Open last year, as the Westmounter takes on Germany’s Angelique Kerber in the French Open round of 16.

Bouchard, 20, will be aiming to get some measure of vengeance over the world ninth-ranked Kerber from Bremen, Germany. The 26-year-old Kerber beat Bouchard 6-4-2-6-6-3 in the second round of the U.S. Open on August 29, 2013 last year in New York City.

Bouchard had more success at the next Grand Slam, making it to the semi-finals at the Australian Open before losing to Li Na 6-2, 6-4.

Kerber, a left-hander, was born in Germany but is of Polish descent and currently resides in Puszczykowo, Poland, according to the WTA site. She has three career WTA titles and reached her top ranking two years ago, reaching fifth in the world.

Bouchard advanced into the final 16 of the 128 starters by defeating unseeded Johanna Larsson of Sweden 7-5, 6-3 Friday.

Kerber advanced by defeating Slovakian Daniel Hantuchova, ranked 31, 7-5, 6-3.

Kerber fared less well than Bouchard in the tune-up tournament in Nuremberg, as Karolina Pilskova beat her on Day Five.

Eugenie Bouchard, meanwhile, excelled on the clay in Nuremberg tournament winning her first-ever WTA crown.

At least one gambling website has Bouchard listed as a slight favourite, in spite of her lower ranking.

If Bouchard were to beat Kerber, she would then face either 15th ranked Carla Suarez Navarro or Ajla Tomlanovic of Croatia, currently ranked 72.

A victory against that opponent would bring Bouchard head-to-head in a semi-final against one of Sam Stosur, Maria Sharapova, Pauline Parmntier or Garbine Muguruza,

A victory in that semi final would put Bouchard in the final against one of 16 opponents, which now include include Simona Halep of Romania (4), Petra Kvitova,(5) and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia (6).
