MONTREAL - Some politicians and residents have sensed that their borough doesn't get its fair slice of the City of Montreal's tax pie.

So they're going to consult with number crunchers, politicians and anybody else who can shed light on the issue.

The hearings will start next week and finish at the end of February, with a final report expected in June.

One borough mayor says the delay is too short and hasn't given enough time to organize a presentation.

"It's too ambitious to actually produce an intelligent and credible document in just a few months," said Southwest Borough Mayor Benoit Dorais.

Projet Montreal Leader Richard Bergeron said Plateau Mont Royal has squeezed by the budget. He's hopeful the hearings make the city more accountable.

"I hope that this time we will have good results at the end of this exercise, boroughs need to be better financed," he said.

Mayor Tremblay says he has always tried to be fair when dividing up the budget.

"For the past 10 years we've been looking at formulas," said Tremblay. "We've been discussing it but we never started with a white sheet to decide what we are going to do. Now it's going to be our responsibility."
