Border agents and the Ontario Provincial Police raided a farm in St. Eugene, Ontario, near the border with Quebec, early Wednesday morning.

The farm is linked to a Montreal-area Employment Agency, which authorities are not yet naming, but say it has offices in Beloeil and Montreal.

Forty officers were looking for illegal workers that had been placed by the agency.

Cell phones were seized in the raid. “CBSA officers executed search warrants in three places with regards to an investigation on illegal work,” said Domenic McNeely of the Canada Border Services Agency.

“I can't give any details about the investigation itself, but I can say that the objective of the search warrants as part of a criminal investigation," said McNeely, adding: "The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act has several penalties that involves substantial fines and imprisonment."

So far they are not saying how many illegal workers were found, nor how many people were arrested.

The company was tight-lipped when CTV Montreal came calling in quest of a comment.

"Everybody is a little upset about that but what can we do, it's the law," said one man.

The Skotidakis farm raises several thousand goats, and their milk is used for feta and yogurt. Their Greek yogurts and cheeses have been on local store shelves since soon after the company was launched in 1975.

The owner's home in Beloeil and a Montreal employment agency were also raided as part of the investigation.
