A British Airways flight heading to London from Las Vegas has made an emergency landing in Montreal due to a bomb threat, CTV has learned.

Flight BA274 was carrying 312 passengers and 16 crew and landed at Trudeau Airport around 6 a.m. eastern.

The plane’s captain made the decision to divert the aircraft “as a precaution,” according to a British Airways spokesperson.

It is unclear why the plane had to be diverted. The airline spokesperson would not discuss a possible bomb threat, saying the airline does not discuss "matters of operational security."

Timo Berger was a passenger on the flight and was woken up by an announcement from the captain that the plane would be making an emergency landing in Montreal.

He says he and his fellow passengers have been waiting around for hours since getting off the plane.

“I feel like a captive. It’s been hours that we have to sit here and wait,” he said, adding the younger passengers are getting especially restless.

Having recently been on a flight that had to make an emergency landing, Berger couldn’t believe the same thing was happening to him again.

It took about an hour, he said, from the time the announcement was made until the plane landed.

When they disembarked, they were greeted with police and sniffer dogs that inspected all the passengers, another hour to 90-minute ordeal.

They’ve been sitting in a terminal ever since, waiting for news on when they can go home. He said every 30 to 60 minutes, an announcement over the PA updates them on the process of searching all the bags, but the message hasn’t changed – they’re still searching the bags and are thanking passengers for their patience.

The flight left McCarran International Airport at 9:30 p.m. PDT (12:30 a.m. eastern) and was scheduled to land in London at 3:25 p.m. GMT+1 (10:25 a.m. eastern).

No passengers are being detained or arrested, and no one has been hospitalized, said police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
