The body of Jean-Francois Geoffrion, the boater who went missing on Tuesday night after a collision in the Port of Montreal, was found on Saturday morning in the St. Lawrence River near Riviere des Prairies – Pointe aux Trembles.

Sailors discovered the body, which had floated near the corner of 36th Ave. and Notre-Dame, just before 9:00 a.m.

"The body was in open water, in the middle of the river, and people who were boating noticed it and called us right away," said SPVM spokesperson Andre Leclerc.

The 31-year-old’s pleasure boat had collided with a cargo ship and extensive searches involving sonar equipment, divers, helicopters and military aircraft were conducted.

In a social media post, Geoffrion’s brother confirmed the identity of the body. The brother thanked those involved in the search.

“It’s because of your help and support that we can now begin to mourn,” he said.

Firefighters were called in to recover the body and an autopsy will be performed.
