For the second time in four months, the Birks jewelry store at the Fairview Pointe Claire shopping centre has been targeted by thieves.

Police say two men in their 20s entered the store at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

They pepper-sprayed employees and broke glass display cases before fleeing with several pieces of jewelry.

Police say the suspects are difficult to describe because they were wearing hoodies. One was wearing a black hoodie, and the other robber was wearing a yellow one.

The mall’s general manager, Christian Vezina, said the shopping centre will evaluate its security practices.

“Our primary concern is the safety of our customers, our retailers, and our staff,” said Vezina. “We will continue to review our protocols to make sure that we can provide a safe shopping environment.”

The same store was robbed in a very similar way in November 2014 and also in 2010.

No one was seriously injured in Wednesday's robbery, but a security guard had to be treated on site by ambulance technicians.

Police are asking anyone who saw the robbery. or who took photos of it. to contact info-crime at 514-393-1133.
