MONTREAL - A restaurant frequently associated with the mafia in Montreal was the target of an arson attack in the north-end Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough early Monday.

Around 1 a.m., the alarm at La Cantina restaurant, located on St. Laurent Blvd. at Legendre St., went off after a break in.

When police arrived at the scene, they found flames coming from the business. Firefighters were called in quickly and damage was limited.

The firefighters found evidence that the fire had been lit using an incendiary object, and so the investigation was turned over to the police.

There have been no arrests.

According to several sources, Vito Rizzuto, the former Mafia boss of Montreal, was a regular at La Cantina.

In August 2009, co-owner Federico Del Peschio, a Rizzuto clan associate, was shot dead in the back of the restaurant.
