Eight people have been arrested following a series of pre-dawn drug raids linked to gangs and organized crime in the Montreal area.

Officers from Montreal and Longueuil teamed up, arresting a total of five men between 26 and 48 years of age and three women between 36 and 50. Montreal police spokesperson Andre Leclerc said those arrested were linked to street gangs and organized crime.

“Also during those search warrants, we have seized a large sum of money, over $100,000,” explained Leclerc. “We also seized some drugs, including cocaine, marijuana, crystal meth and amphetamines.”

Leclerc said police also seized two firearms.

The case is ongoing, and Leclerc said he hopes more arrests will be made.

“Even though those search warrants are completed, an investigation is still on, and a future search warrant can be ordered,” he said.

He could not say what charges would be laid against the suspects, but confirmed that it would most likely include charges of drug possession and conspiracy.
